Course Details

Safeguard:
Safeguard provides safety supervision training for guardians responsible for the care of young people at pools and waterfronts. The course is ideal for camp counselors, camp counselors in training, babysitters, and all others responsible for the supervision of young people in aquatic environments. In this 3.5-4 hour course, you will learn about the responsibility undertaken by group leaders for safeguarding the young people in their care even when under lifeguard supervision.
You will learn about water safety awareness, accident prevention and the principles of aquatic safety supervision. Safeguard teaches participants how to identify hazards and at-risk behaviours, how to recognize potential victims, and how to respond safely in an aquatic emergency.
Course FAQ
Prerequisite:
There are no prerequisites to participate in the Safeguard course. However, it is recommended that guardians be at least 12 years of age and are able to swim.
Certification and Candidate Recognition:
Successful candidates will receive a certification card. Recertification is not required, but annual retraining is recommended.
